Prince Edward County, Ontario is an island on the north shore of Lake Ontario, just south of Belleville. If you’re not familiar with the geography that’s about two hours east of Toronto. The area is known for it’s cycling friendly terrain, wineries, cideries and maritime vibe. We went down to PEC one long weekend for some relaxing, cycling and tasting. Seeing the process vintners go through in northern climates you wonder why and thank them all the same. Burying the vines for winter and digging them up again the next spring seemed like a lot of work, but the results are worth it.
Don’t Forget Sandbanks
Another famous feature of the area is Sandbanks Beach. Over the years… many years the sands have been forced up onto the shore by the prevailing winds to create sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see. The beach is forever long and the Provincial Park and campground are always packed as a result. Prince Edward County is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
