Labour Day weekend pretty much signifies the end of summer in this part of the world. Days start to get shorter so evening sailing is winding down. Weekends are still doable as the days are warm, but nights can get cool so you’re less inclined to go.
After world war two some members of the club we sail from bought an acre of land about 20 km up the river as a memorial park. Twice a year the club throws a party at the property and so on Labour Day weekend that’s an easy destination.
Typically about a dozen or so boats will spend the weekend and others will drive up to have a corn boil and bonfire. The Sunday evening always includes a tribute to club members that served in the various wars that Canada has gotten wrangled into. There are kids games and a few beers are consumed. Overall a good way to round out the summer.
